If you love a good old-fashioned crumbed schnitzel but can’t be bothered with the flour, egg and breadcrumb mess… Riley has you sorted! We’ve got already-crumbed beef schnitzels in the fridge, ready to go. They cook in no time at all, so you can have dinner on the table in around 10 minutes. Chuck the schnitzel in the pan or even the air fryer, throw together a quick salad, roast some parsnips like I did… and done! Minimal effort, minimal dishes and a proper dinner on the table. STICKY ASIAN BEEF SCHNITZEL BAO BUNS These were SO good - and really quick and easy to make! Beef schnitzel is on special this week for just $27.99kg, so I cut the schnitzel into strips, coated them in cornflour, then dipped them in beaten egg and coated them in panko breadcrumbs. Shallow-fry in a little oil until golden and crispy, then toss the cooked beef strips through this sticky Asian sauce: STICKY ASIAN SAUCE • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce • 2 tbsp soy sauce • 1 tbsp honey • 1 tbsp sweet chilli sauce • 1 tsp sesame oil • 1 small clove garlic, grated • A little grated ginger • Squeeze of lime Mix the sauce ingredients together, then toss through the hot crispy beef strips until they’re beautifully sticky and glossy. Pile into steamed bao buns with your favourite fresh toppings - I used crunchy veg and a little Kewpie mayo. So simple, so tasty, and definitely not boring old schnitzel! Spring is starting to arrive out at Makarau. The paddocks are greening up, the days are getting longer, and the deer are looking pretty content in their surroundings. This is where part of the venison story at The Local Farmer begins. These deer are farmed by Tony on his property in Makarau, where they get to spend their days doing what deer do best - enjoying plenty of space and a pretty beautiful patch of New Zealand. Tony may have traded the rugby field for the deer farm these days, but the connection to the land has always been there. We love being able to share not just the meat, but a little bit of the story behind where it comes from. Incredible quality meat. Highly recommend their steaks which melt in your mouth, so tender! Their sausages and bacon are divine, too.

I was even impressed by their beef mince which has very little fat and isn’t “gristly” like supermarket mince.

The meat packs are amazing value for money, too.

We refuse to buy from the supermarket now, how could we ever go back after trying the best? We simply can’t.

The staff are very friendly and accommodating, also. Why are you still reading? Go in and see them!
