Hot off the butcher’s block

At The Local Farmer, we raise our own sheep, beef, and venison right here on our land. From start to finish, we are involved in every step of the journey.

Our animals are processed on-farm, in a low stress environment, before being transported back to our purpose built facility in Dairy Flat. There, each carcass is carefully hung and aged (typically around 7 days, depending on the animal), before being expertly processed by our team.

We’re not a mass production operation - and we’re not trying to be. Our focus is on producing a high quality, ethical product for our local community, with care taken at every stage rather than cutting corners for scale.

Why does this matter?

Because how an animal is treated, especially at the end of its life, has a direct impact on both welfare and quality.

• Less stress on the animal
• No long-distance transport to large scale facilities
• Full traceability - from paddock to plate
• Carefully managed ageing for better flavour and tenderness

The result is meat that we genuinely believe is better - ethically and in quality.

We also believe in supporting local. When you buy from us, you’re backing a small, hardworking team, local suppliers, and a more transparent way of producing food.

Many of our customers tell us they can taste the difference….and for us, that comes down to doing things the right way, not the fastest way.

We know not everyone thinks about where their food comes from, but for those who do, we’re proud to offer an alternative.

Thanks for supporting local.

Plenty of reduced to clear sausages in the fridge before they move to the freezer….just look for the orange special sticker!!
Freezer looking a bit empty?

Our 4kg bulk beef mince bags are only $85!

That’s our own locally farmed beef, processed right here in-store, and hung for a minimum of 7 days for proper flavour.
No added water, no fillers - just honest, quality beef.

Sold fresh, so you can portion it out how it suits - meal prep, family packs, whatever works….then freeze for later.

We’ve worked hard to keep this as sharp as possible while maintaining the quality you know and trust.

At just over $21kg, it’s still a solid way to stock up without cutting corners.

Good for the family, good for the freezer.

You’ll find us at 69 Kahikatea Flat Rd, Dairy Flat.
Lest we forget.

As ANZAC Day approaches, we take a moment to reflect and remember those who gave so much.

We honour their courage and sacrifice.

We’ll be closed Saturday and Monday.
Open until 6pm Friday, and back from 9am Tuesday.

Wishing you a peaceful weekend with those who matter most.
